Wilhelm Kempff AcademyTaking its lead from the tradition established by Wilhelm Kempff as well as from the more than 60 years’ of experience in organising courses for young pianists in Positano, the Wilhelm-Kempff-Kulturstiftung (Trust) has set up a permanent, unincorporated foundation under the name “Wilhelm Kempff Akademie” (Wilhelm Kempff Academy). The Academy’s aim is to further the development of outstanding young artists, and to enable them to be inspired artistically through experiencing the values essential to Wilhelm Kempff in the very place where he worked, as well as through dialogue with other artists. In August 2017, the Wilhelm Kempff Akademie gGmbH, a nonprofit corporation based in Berlin, was founded. Centre of the activities organized by the Foundation and Academy is Positano, Italy. The program in 2017 to 2023 are supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. Masterclass BeethovenIn 1957 Wilhelm Kempff held his first Beethoven course in his house “Casa Orfeo” in Positano/southern Italy, which was built according to his own plans. Passing on his extensive experience to younger generations was a matter close to his heart. Masterclass SchumannThe masterclass Schumann on the works of Robert Schumann took place for the fifth time in December 2023. Neapolitan Piano SchoolThe Neapolitan Piano School is connected to the rich Neapolitan piano tradition, especially the works of Domenico Scarlatti and Sigismund Thalberg. T place masterclass will take place for the second time in September 2023. Liszt in ItalyThe masterclass Liszt in Italy focusses on Franz Liszt and his piano works. It will take place for the second time in November 2023. Artists residenciesArtists can be awarded with a residence scholarship in Positano.
